Eighth Annual Typography Exhibition
Project Overview:
For this project, the main goal was to create a captivating visual identity for the Eighth Annual Typography Exhibition, which features outstanding student work from the Visual Communication Design department at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), focusing on using typography as the main design element. The task also included making materials to be displayed in the Fine Arts building as advertising and giveaways.
Target Audience:
The main audience was students in the Fine Arts department, typically between 18 and 24 years old. Since these students are always on the move, I wanted my design to feel modern and enjoyable to catch their attention.
Design Approach:
I wanted to consider how students would interact with the materials as they walked through the Fine Arts building. My design approach aimed to grab their attention quickly with bold and eye-catching elements. I made sure that important information like the exhibition title and location was easy to spot at a glance. The idea was to help students get the information they needed quickly so they could get on with their day.
I embraced the theme of "the building blocks of design" from the exhibition. I creatively arranged the typography to give the impression that the letters were stacked atop one another. To enhance this concept, I incorporated a color scheme inspired by primary colors (the building blocks of all color) red, yellow, and blue, along with teal to complement the palette. Recognizing that typography played a central role in conveying the theme, I selected a display typeface with a blocky shape to harmonize the design with the theme.
The final visual identity I created for the Eighth Annual Typography Exhibition combined style with practicality, creating an engaging experience for Fine Arts students while showcasing the talent of UTA's VCD department.
